After careful considerations, on Wednesday, February 9, 2022, we will be returning to the August decision advising families that based on COVID metrics (February 7, 2022, Oak Forest metrics screenshot included) and the recent TRO decision, the BOE plans to return to masks being recommended, but not required.
Based on current legal guidance, D142 will continue to require masking on all buses and during extracurricular activities and events due to IESA guidelines for participation.
The board's decision to hold to our current masking protocol was made over the weekend based on legal advice that there may be a quick State of IL response similar to August 2021 causing our families undue stress for constantly changing protocols. The goal of D142 has always been to move forward to normalcy in our buildings with the utmost safety in our minds for our students and staff. If there is an ISBE or state requirement that changes masking requirements or COVID metrics change that would threaten our children remaining in-person learning, we will notify parents of those changes immediately.
We welcome any concerned staff or parents to our next Board meeting on February 15, 2022, at 7pm at Ridge Early Childhood Center.
Thank you for your patience,
The D142 Board of Education
